Our Aussies
Welcome to our page for our Australian Shepherds. Aussies were developed to herd livestock and work as all-purpose farm and ranch dogs. They quickly were adapted to other roles such as Search and rescue, guide dogs, therapy and hearing dogs, drug detection, as well as use in competitive sports of obedience, agility and flyball because of their high intelligence, trainability and eagerness to please. They make the idea working and family dog as they are protective and gentle with young children, great playmates and are protective over their family and property. We do not show our dogs, they work here at Reddick Ranch with herding our horses, they protect us as well as our property. I had never been particularly fond of large breed dogs, I have owned many, but always bonded with smaller house dogs until I got Buddy, my male aussie. I fell head of over heels for him and thus came my love and respect for the breed. From my experiences, border collies were very great herding dogs, but were also very high strung making them harder to teach when not to herd. Heelers were a bit too aggressive and unpredictable with children, visitors and younger horses, fine for cattle, so for our needs the aussie was the easist to train, most reliable and most loving companion.  While we do not consider ourselves breeders, we do have a litter about once a year that we offer to sale. Our pups have been placed in big ranches, smaller farms, in homes and apartments. They all get their sire's wonderful temperament, problem solving skills and intelligence. They are socialized, dewormed, have their first shots and are sent with to their new homes with toys, ASCA papers and health records.
Update-  In December 2009, we lost Buddy, my much beloved male aussie to cancer. He is very much missed, so while I still love the awesome aussie breed, I have not had it in my heart to breed our females. I have since had our breeding females spayed. They will continue to be our family members and loving companions.
I want to thank everyone who sent thier condolences and also everyone who gave wonderful homes to our pups through the years. I am truly grateful that I was able to met you all and give you all a glimpse of Buddy's special loving soul. It has been a blessing knowing we touched so many lives! Take care and God bless all !!!
